At Marie Stopes Zambia we offer a wide range of contraception methods from short term to long term methods. Whether you are the girl on the go or the ambitious woman, we have contraception that best your needs.
Oral contraception known as the combined pill
These pills, which contain hormones, prevent pregnancy by stopping eggs from being released or sperm from reaching eggs. They need to be taken daily and are highly effective, with a success rate of 90-99%. Some benefits include the ability to stop using them at any time and quickly become pregnant, easy access from local pharmacies, regulation of periods, reduced cramps, possible light bleeding, and clearer skin.
Contraception injection – DEPO-PROVERA/ NORISTERATE/ SAYANA PRESS
These are long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) that are injected into the body to prevent pregnancy by stopping the release of eggs. Depo-Provera and Sayana Press last for three months, while Noristerate lasts for two months. They are highly effective, with a success rate of 97-99%. Some benefits include low maintenance, easy access, privacy, and potential for lighter or stopped periods after a few months.
Contraception implant
These are long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) that are small, flexible rods inserted under the skin. They release hormones that prevent the release of eggs, providing long-term pregnancy prevention. Jadelle lasts for five years, Levoplant lasts for three to four years, and Implanon lasts for three years. They offer the advantages of convenience and the ability to get pregnant quickly after removal.
IUCD COPPER T/IUS
Some women may have concerns about IUDs, but they are generally safe and effective. IUDs are small, T-shaped devices inserted into the uterus. They can contain either copper or hormones. Copper IUDs can prevent pregnancy for up to 10 years, while hormone-releasing IUDs, like Mirena, can last up to 5 years.
EMERGENCY PILL
The emergency contraceptive pill, commonly referred to as the morning-after pill, is a time-sensitive option for preventing pregnancy following unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure. It functions by interfering with the ovulation process, fertilization, or implantation. While effective, it is not intended for regular use as a contraceptive method.
